Appalachian Power Company (APCo) representatives plan to upgrade the transmission system in Huntington as part of the Darrah-Barnett Transmission Line Rebuild Project. The project involves rebuilding approximately 3 miles of 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line and upgrading two substations to increase reliability for customers and reduce the risk of power outages.

Appalachian Power Company (APCo) is actively responding to a mineral oil release resulting from an equipment failure at its Wyoming Station in the Clear Fork Area of Wyoming County. Mineral oil is commonly used to cool electrical transformers.

Prolonged dry weather and below-average precipitation have led to a lower-than-normal lake level at Appalachian Power Company’s (APCo) Smith Mountain Project. With winter fishing and other lake activities underway, APCo urges the public to exercise caution around Smith Mountain Lake. Some boat ramps and launch areas may be temporarily inaccessible due to reduced water levels.
