APCo representatives and landowners met at recent open houses to discuss the Claytor-Floyd Transmission Line Rebuild Project. If approved by the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC), the project would replace 1940s-era infrastructure with modern equipment to increase electric reliability and reduce the need for frequent maintenance.

Lower energy prices, combined with Appalachian Power (APCo) incorporating more renewable sources of power into its energy mix, resulted in the company requesting a reduction in its fuel factor rate from 4.139 ¢/kilowatt-hours (kWh) to 3.133 ¢/kWh from the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC). An approved interim rate resulting in monthly savings of $10.06 for a Virginia residential customer using 1,000 kWh will take effect Nov. 1. The fuel factor constitutes approximately 20% of a residential customer's electric bill.

Appalachian Power (APCo) customers will benefit from reduced financing costs for projects to rebuild or replace transmission lines serving 460,000 West Virginia customers through a loan guarantee administered by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Loan Program Office (LPO). American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP) today closed on loans totaling $1.6 billion to replace or rebuild nearly 5,000 miles of transmission lines across five states to meet the growing energy needs of customers and communities.

Appalachian Power Company (APCo) and Wheeling Power Company (WPCo) (together, “APCo”) today filed their Integrated Resource Plans (IRP) to the Public Service Commission of West Virginia (PSC), fulfilling the requirements set forth by West Virginia Code § 24-2-19. The two comprehensive plans present potential strategies for meeting the energy and capacity needs of their customers over the next 10 years under different scenarios and assumptions.
